Tony Faust was a famous restaurateur back in the day, in St. Louis, Missouri. Anthony Edward Faust, aka "Tony" was born on January 3, 1896 in Westphalia Germany to Conrad Faust and Katherine Gerlach. It has been written that Tony, being a young lad of just 17, embarked upon his journey to America in the year of 1853. After arriving in New York, it is written that he first moved westward to Dubuque, Iowa. We are not sure of the reason for this. It is interesting however, to note, that my husbands Faust family was living in Dubuque, Iowa around the same time. Tony was working as an ornamental plasterer when he came to St. Louis around the year 1856, living in the Carondelet neighborhood. On May 10, 1861, during the Camp Jackson Day Parade, a fellow soldier's gun accidentally discharged and shot Tony, wounding him slightly. It was this event that caused Tony to give up the plastering business and move on to bigger and better things. In 1862, Tony opened a small tavern on Broadway and Russell Ave. On May 12, 1864 he married Elizabeth Bischoff in St. Louis, Missouri. To this union were born 3 children: Mollie Faust, who would later marry Arthur David Giannini, Edward Augustus Faust who married Anna Louise Busch (Daughter of Adolphus and Elizabeth Anheuser), and Anthony Robert "Tony" Faust, who married Adine Louise Bouvier.
